Olumide Famuyiwa is one of our Partners. A rounded commercial, financial and international dispute resolution lawyer, he graduated with a First-Class degree in Law (top 1%) from University of Ibadan, Nigeria’s first and consistently ranked best university. In the Bar Vocational Course at the Nigerian Law School, he was rated outstanding and won the overall best student prize in civil litigation. He worked as a Barrister in one of Nigeria’s foremost commercial law firms in Lagos. He left the firm with commendation in 2009, to study for the prestigious Bachelor of Civil Law and Doctorate Degrees in Law at the University of Oxford, Oxford, England. He has published articles in Corporate Law, Financial Law and International Dispute Settlement.
- Advised the Federal Government of Nigeria on the recovery of illegally externalised foreign exchange in the sum of $13 billion USD by offshore corporate shareholders of MTN Communications Nigeria Limited;
- Part of the Legal Team that represented the Federal Government of Nigeria, NNPC and NPDC on the divestment of the Federal Government of Nigeria’s equity in Brass and Forcados assets with portfolio of over US$1.7 billion;
- Part of the Legal Team that represented the Federal Government of Nigeria on the recovery of financial loss to the tune of over US$12.7 billion arising from the illegal shipment and sale of over fifty million barrels of crude oil by several local and multinational oil companies;
- Part of the Legal Team that represented Lagos State Government in an ICC arbitration over the termination of a power purchase agreement with Enron (now AES Power); and
- Represented an international real estate company in a breach of contract case in respect of the structural defects on two multi-billion naira Town Houses at Mambila Close, Osborne Foreshore, Ikoyi.
