Maryam heads the firm’s Real Estate, Infrastructure and Construction team. She also heads Amalgamated Nominees Limited (ANL), a company affiliated to the firm, providing company secretarial and legal advisory services to the firm’s Corporate clients. As head of ANL, she ensures that the firm’s corporate clients comply with all regulatory laws in respect of their businesses. She advises international clients who are desirous of doing business in Nigeria, on the laws governing their businesses. Her job includes attending Board and companies’ members meetings ensuring companies keep statutory records, filing appropriate documentation and returns at various government agencies, writing and keeping minutes of all meetings for various companies etc.
She was part of the team that created a contractual framework in respect of Nigeria’s foremost privately developed and successfully managed housing estate. Maryam rendered legal advice and prepared the legal documentation, including the management agreement, construction contracts, finance documentation, consultancy and engineering agreements on behalf of a major International hotel chain in Nigeria.
She has participated in the various phases of conception, financing, construction and maintenance of at least, three privately developed estates in Nigeria (including the most successful private city estate in Nigeria), two International hotels under the Hyatt and IHG chains as well as various office and shopping complexes. She has also negotiated and advised a State government on the construction of two modern multi-storey court houses in Nigeria in a uniquely structured transaction, considered a first in many ways.
She was part of the team that provided legal advisory services to the concessionaire in respect of the construction of the US$250 million International airport terminal in Lagos under a Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) transaction. She currently prepares lease agreements, Service Level Agreements and other agreements for the client.
Maryam routinely renders legal advisory services to leading construction companies in Nigeria including issues related to the interpretation of the Land Use Act and the Urban and Regional Planning and Development law (and the ensuing case law from these laws). She also supervises regularly, the perfection of title documents in all the land registries in Nigeria.
